There are two approaches to restoring an older home: you may adopt a preservationist approach and go for a fully historical makeover, or you can go for a mixing of the old and the modern, which we normally find to be more appealing. Layers of old paint, uneven flooring, poor lighting, and layouts that don’t work for contemporary families – older homes can have a slew of problems. However, there are generally some attractive components worth saving, such as bespoke crown mouldings, fireplace surrounds, pocket doors, and other traces of a bygone age when carpentry treasures like these were more popular.
